Rainy day ...perfectly made for doing 'inner work'.

We’re being pelted by rain and wind from Hurricane Irene this morning as it moves up the East coast. It’s going to be wonderful day to hunger down and do some inner-work.

Two books came into my life over the course of the past few days: “Finding Your Voice through Creativity”, an art and journaling workbook for disordered eating and “The Power of Purpose”, creating meaning in your life and work. Both books are being read with pen in hand. So many kernels of inspiration and meaning that need underlining and highlighting for future reference.

My question is why? I may have the question but I also have the answer….because of the past few months I’ve been silently struggling with some issues. On one hand -my weight, my eating habits and on the other hand - my future. I’ve been feeling like a fish out of water with no real direction - no passion . I’m happy, to be sure, but what will bring me even more fulfilling joy?

The Power of Purpose may give me some stepping stones for me to use.

Stepping Stones
  • “You must stop and reassess your priorities and values. You must be willing to be yourself, not what people want you to be because you think that is the only way you can get love. You can no longer be dishonest. You are now at a point where, if you really want to live, you have to be who you are.”
  • “The light now comes from within.”
  • “Purpose -- the recognition of the presence of the sacred within us and the choice of work that is consistent with that presence.”
  • “Purpose, for me, boils down to relationships.”
  • “Most of us want to be somebody.”
  • “There is purpose whenever we use our gifts and talents to respond to something we believe in.”
  • “No other person can hear our calling. To hear it, we need a positive environment that supports deep listening and truth telling.”
