"Since Iris is the Greek goddess for the Messenger of Love, her sacred flower is considered the symbol of communication and messages.  Greek men would often plant an iris on the graves of their beloved women as a tribute to the goddess Iris, whose duty it was to take the souls of women to the Elysian fields."  - The stories of flowers

Spring is flying by....as evidenced by the dwindling number of iris still left standing.  Their season is short enough  but I think this year it was shortened even more by the many rainy days.   I am grateful that I have a vast array of photographs to refer to for coming painting sessions.

Guess this says it all........."With a few flowers in my garden, half a dozen pictures and some books, I live without envy."   -  Lope de Vega
